Xabi Alonso plans to test Bellingham in a role similar to that he had at Dortmund

People have grown really fund of the new Bellingham who plays as an attacking midfielder and a false 9. However, this not the role he had at Dortmund when Real Madrid scouted him. His migration to the more attacking areas of the field was just as an emergency, after losing Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid went into the 2023/24 season without any real attacking threat and box presence. This prompted Ancelotti to use the card off his sleeves, with Bellingham freshly arriving as a new signing. Bellingham was offered the box crashing role, also operating as a 10, a position he excelled at so well.

The arrival of new manager Xabi Alonso though, is expected to see the Englishman move back to a role he dominated 2 years ago.

Alonso to test Jude as a CM just like his Dortmund days.

Jude Bellingham at Dortmund occupied a more deeper midfield role, operating as a central midfielder. At a very young age, he monopolized that area of the field, and stacked his claim as the best in the world.

The plan for the upcoming club World Cup is that Xabi will fit him in that specific role, reports RubenMartinAS. After the competition, the coach will access the player’s productivity in the new role. A decision will then be made as to if the signing of a Central midfielder is necessary for the upcoming season.

Bellingham might have exceeded expectations playing in a more attacking role, but truth be told it’s not his field of specialty. As they say, a good player will always perform regardless of his position. Bellingham certainly proved why he’s considered the best.

However, you look at Bellingham excluding his on ball movements and undeniable magic, you see a fighter. Jude is a box to box, a fighter with beast energy and has an insane desire for success. This are the characteristics of a good CM.
