“People never forget the first one” – Vinicius Jr set sight on the club World Cup

Ahead of Real Madrid’s first game against Al Hilal on Wednesday, Vinicius Jr has made it clear that Real Madrid didn’t just travel to the United States just to complete the 32 participants. The Brazilian stacked his claim on the trophy, as he believes the Merengues have a real chance of victory.

Vinicius did not travel with his teammates to the States, as the club decided against the long travel from Brazil to Spain then to the United States. He and other teammates like Arda and Lunin were joined by the entire squad earlier today.

On finally reuniting with his teammates after a long two weeks break, Vinicius said:

“I arrived last night. I caught up with friends I hadn’t seen in a while. I’m very happy and ready to adapt to the schedule, the heat, the climate, everything. We’re all READY.”

Today was only his first time working under Xabi Alonso who has been active a Real’s head coach for over a week now. On working with the Spaniard, he said:

“Xabi Alonso? We’re training very hard but today was a little calmer because of the trip. We’re already preparing for the matches.
I had already spoken with the coach before. I’m very happy and we have to keep working to win a lot of things with him.”

The attention was immediately turned to the main event, as Real Madrid are well amongst the favorites to win the tournament. It could be a consolation to the fans, who have known a lot of pain throughout the season.

On how much the team values the competition, Vinicius said:

“We’re eager to win this first Club World Cup because people never forget the first one, and it’s the only title Real Madrid doesn’t have. We’re GOING for it.”

One month and seven games during that span of time. That’s the minimum Real Madrid will be hoping for in this tournament. However, they must first make a strong impression on Wednesday.
