In the absence of superstar captain kylian Mbappe, French head coach Deschamps took the responsibility of appointing a new captain from his squad ahead of tomorrow’s clash vs Israel. Candidates in question included Barça’s Jules kunde, Tchouaméni and Mike maignan.
After a brief contemplation, the federation has finally made up their mind on who will be captain tomorrow. This is courtesy of a report from French journalist Fabrice Hawkins [via The madrid zone]
Tchouaméni to lead France
According to the source, Real Madrid’s Midfield mainstay Aurelien Tchouaméni was handed the armband by the coach. Didier Deschamps and his staff have full confidence in him, and deemed him the right man to take Mbappé’s place.
The report was further strengthened by an official announcement by the French football federation, confirming it’s new captain. Atleast untill Mbappe returns.
Tchouaméni, 24, is set to wear the armband for Les blues for the first time in his career. This comes as a rewards for his sportsmanship and hospitality towards his teammates.
Since making his debut aged 21, Tchouaméni has lived some memorable memories with the French NT. He was amongst the top performers in the 2022 WC finals, though missing his spot-kick.
Awarded the armband, Tchouaméni is now set to take up more responsibility in the national team, and even with the return of Mbappe, Tchouaméni will continue to be amongst the leaders for his country.
As for Mbappe, the captain missed out on the international break due to slight discomfort. He has been in and out of the madrid squad lately, after a hamstring injury. Although it’s not too serious, both parties agreed not to risk it and Mbappe is expected to be fine before Madrid play celta vigo.
The player is currently at valdebebas undergoing recovery, as he aims at full fitness by the return of club football. His objective is to start vs celta vigo.
