Five Takeaways from Real Madrid’s 3-0 triumph over Leganes

It was another stunning display for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who have now won back to back league games. Just when all hope seemed lost for the season, Real Madrid have once more again proven why you should never write them off.

Of course the season is still long, and they will have to improve, but giving their recent form, there is much believe. In what was a dominant display last night, here are some FIVE key points to take home.

1. No Militão, no problem.

Militão has now suffered back to back ACL injuries in 2 seasons in a row. Given the fact that the club entered the season with just two senior CB’s, things weren’t looking good at all.

However, Raul Asencio has stepped up and proved why the management must rely and trust academy talents. Infact, Militão’s absence has barely been felt, given how good Asencio has turned out to be.

With Two clean-sheets in two games + one assist, Asencio is having the season of his life.

2. Title Race on track

Three weeks ago, Real Madrid looked so so out of the LaLiga race this season, falling behind by 9 points. Who would have thought three weeks later, the gap would be reduced to four, with the merengues having a game in hand.

If the los blancos manage to win their delay match against Valencia, Barcelona will find themselves in all sorts of trouble. Having dropped back to back points in LaLiga (1 out of 6 points) the tables seems to have turned.

3. Valverde can do it all.

In terms of versatility, Fede Valverde is a honourable mention. Having strived at CM, RW, DM and pivot, it was time for Ancelotti to experiment him at RB, and boy did he pass with flying colors.

As we earlier said, injuries have caused all sorts of problems for Ancelotti, resulting in the Italian thinking out of the box. With Lucas Vasquez out injured and Carvajal sidelined for a year, Valverde proved to be the Ace off Ancelotti’s sleeves.

In his first start for the club as a captain, it was a statement performance in a new position, however he still managed to finish the night with a superb goal. Talk of captain fantastic….

4. The attack is working again!

Although Rodrygo was sidelined for this one, the chemistry upfront was nothing short of spectacular. Of course, they could do better, but giving how they have struggled so far, they were more positives than negatives night.

Mbappé looked more confident playing from the left, while Vini was quite brilliant from the middle. Things are only bound to get better from here.

5. More minutes for subs.

With all the talent in the squad, Carlo Ancelotti has still somehow managed to perform the least number of changes in the league. Take last night’s game for example, players like Fran Garcia, Arda Güler and Ceballos were all excellent as starters.

Brahim and Modrić amongst others also came on and had an impact on the game. Aside from handing out minutes to other players, a good rotation plan also helps rest tired legs, and avoid injuries.

Arda Güler for one, showed why he should be getting reasonable minutes week-in week-out. Having mostly often featured on for Turkey NT, Güler put up a show last night. Now it’s up for Ancelotti to decide what happens from here.

What’s next?

After yesterday’s game, a more demanding Mid-week fixture awaits Real Madrid. The men in white will be traveling to England, where they face an informed Liverpool side at Anfield.

Having lost 2 games already this season in the UCL the pressure continues to mount, and anything other than three points on Wednesday will only make things worst.
