Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeneß attended a pre-match presser, where he was full of praises for Real Madrid and tonights venue, the Santiago Bernabéu. After an impressive bundesliga campaign, the German gaffer will be hopping to make an impressive first impression in the champions league.
For an underdog, football matches don’t get harder as a start against Real Madrid. The Stuttgart head coach however did back his side to face the night with full confidence.
Amongst some of the topics he touched upon, he notably showered praises on the new Santiago Bernabéu saying;
“Santiago Bernabéu? It’s impressive – both from the outside and the inside. You get a good first impression of what will happen here on the night”
Moving forward, Sebastian Hoeneß also talked a little about the opponent of the night, highlighting some of Madrid’s strengths saying;
“One of Real Madrid’s strengths is their flexibility in possession. They often instinctively occupy the right spaces. They’re also a team that can switch incredibly well.
We have to be wide awake and highly focused – in every situation. It’s also important that we bring our strengths to the pitch. We also have the confidence to annoy them in phases.”
In the above statement, he made mention of Real Madrid’s flexibility, an aspect any team in Europe is yet to stop at full force. Knowing the opponents strengths, it will be important to see if he can stop them.
Stuttgart could cause an upset at the Bernabéu
Qualifying for the champions league already makes you worthy of causing an upset, even against the greats. This was evident recently, when sheriff tiraspol shocked the world by beating Real Madrid.
Bundesliga overachievers Stuttgart already showed how big of an upset the can cause when the finished second in the league, ahead of clubs like Bayern Munich, Dortmund, liepzik and Frankfurt.
