Real Madrid shortlist Ibrahima Konate as possible free signing next summer

Real Madrid has mastered the art of signing players who are out of contract with their parent clubs. Trent Alexander Arnold is the latest addition to a list of Mbappe, Alaba, Rudiger and many others. Now, they are already keeping their eyes peeled for next summer, with Ibrahima Konate the most talked about. this report emerges courtesy of Spanish publication Marca.

After landing Trent from the reds this summer, the Merengues are already admiring another star from the Merseyside club. Konate is a player they really like a lot, and the fact he only has one year left on his contract makes things more interesting.

Renewal talks with Ibrahima Konate at a standstill

As per the source, renewal talks between Liverpool and Konate were smooth moving, until Real Madrid registered interest. Talks have been paused, as the player carefully weighs his options.

In order to delay a decision making, Konate is even making demands Liverpool are not willing to meet yet. They are now seriously getting worried over the defender’s future.

After losing Trent Alexander Arnold, Liverpool are in no mood to lose another player to Real Madrid, more so for free. However, when Real Madrid comes knocking, the scenario takes a whole different trajectory.

If Ibrahima Konate can hold on till January without putting pen to paper, he would legally e allowed to negotiate with suitors. At that moment, Real Madrid would be able to formally approach him without breaching any rules.

A top addition for Real Madrid

Konate, 26, is currently at the peak of his abilities, and would definitely be an asset for Real Madrid. The club might currently have senior 5 CB’s, but two are already running out of legs in Alaba and Rudiger. Militao has not been the same since his injury, and Ansencio has only had a season of top level football.

Huijsen is the only undisputed candidate in that back line, and would do a great job with Konate by his side. However, it’s still too early to draw conclusions. Let’s see if Konate renews with Liverpool, or opts to join Real Madrid next summer.
