During the pre-season, academy young talent Joan Martinez made his breakthrough to the Real Madrid first team. Regarded as the next Sergio Ramos, the youngstar did live up to the expectations, catching the eyes of every Real Madrid fan.
However, it was not meant to be his season, with the Spaniard picking up an ACL injury in training.
Joan Martinez’s return date
ACL injuries are amongst the worst a football player go through. The recovery and rehabilitation period for such are usually long, and sometimes players never return to their best after this kind of injuries.
A Confirmed by Mario Cortegana of The Athletic (via Madridxtra), Joan Martinez’s surgery has been scheduled for September 3rd. After surgery, the young Spaniard will now commence recovery.
Indeed, another report from Marca claims that Joan will be out of action for about 7 to 8 months.
If this report is somehow true, it means Martinez will be set for an April or May return.
What a season it could have been for Joan
Football is a beautiful game, but it sure does have it’s cruel side. When Real Madrid’s prime target LENY YORO snubbed the club for English heavyweights Manchester United, Martinez was tipped to join the first team set-up.
A lot of hype surrounded the young talent, including his hair style, facial appearance and how he carries himself in the field which led to comparisons with club legend Sergio Ramos.
However, Joan did live up to the expectations. In his debut vs AC Milan in the USA, the youngstar showed a promising performance. His timing on tackles was precise, his passing accuracy was on point, giving Sergio Ramos vibes.
Joan was expected to be part of the first team this season with they being on two available CB’s. The injury to the youngstar later led jacobo Ramon being promoted to the first team.
