Andriy Lunin enjoyed his most prolific season at top flight with Real Madrid last season. Owing to an ACL injury to Thibaut Courtois, the Ukrainian became a starter for the los blancos and was a key asset in the teams success.
In what was a breakthrough season for the rising star, even Superman performances against Liepzik, man city and Bayern could not guarantee him a starting role in the UCL final ahead of the returning Courtois.
Indeed, rumors began to flood in about a possible exit, with the player not particularly happy with the coach’s choice to snub him on the big occasion. However, the summer window came and passed with the player still staying put at the club.
Lunin’s renewal
A report by Jose Felix Diaz (via Madridxtra) earlier today, claimed Lunin has put pen to paper, extending his stay at Real Madrid. The report also went on to state that the player initially signed a four year deal, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.
Owing to this, further confirmations from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and marca have emerged, putting more eight on the report.
What’s next for Lunin
Lunin’s new contract will keep him at the club for the next four seasons. In this case, the player would have already come into terms with the reality of playing second fiddle to Courtois.
However, Lunin is not someone to give up easily. He’s known for his resilience and ambitious character.
Given his quality, Carlo Ancelotti is spoiled with riches in the Goalkeeping department, but will also have to deal with the headache of managing two world-class at the same time.
Moreover, Lunin still has the decision to make, if he wishes to continue pass this season or push for an exit next summer. In this case, with a freshly signed four year deal, Real Madrid won’t let him go cheaply.
