It was a sad day at Real Madrid when promising young talent Joan Martinez suffered an ACL injury. The young Spaniard came through the Real Madrid academy ranks, and was widely tipped to join the first team set-up, after Leny yoro snubbed Madrid for man united.
However, things were never to be, as his supposed breakthrough season was overshadowed by the injury.
Surgery conducted successfully
After impressive showing in the United States in pre-season friendly games, Martinez picked up an ACL in training. Sidelined since early August, surgery was finally conducted yesterday, and his recovery process could now begin smoothly.
As reported by journalist Mario Cortegana in The Athletic, the surgery was a success, and was performed by Manuel Leyes, the same specialist who previously operated on Real Madrid stars Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao.
Still just 17, Joan Martinez has a big future in front of him, and with the backing of his teammates, he will navigate through this hard times. Support from the first team players to Martinez has been massive, with the whole squad sending messages of encouragement to the youngstar.
Real Madrid fully trust Martinez
Despite the big setback, Real Madrid has still opted to renew Martinez’s contract. This is a gesture from the club to show Martinez they trust in him. With a contract that expires in 2026, Madrid wants to renew Martinez on more improved terms and status.
The youngstars relationship with the fans on the other hand is very fascinating. His hairstyle, playing style, facial expressions and the way he carries himself on the field lead to comparisons with Ramos. Indeed, Martinez lived up to the hype in his early days with the first team on pre-season.
Largely regarded as the next Sergio Ramos, the fans can’t wait for Martinez to make a return.
Although, surgery has been conducted successfully, a return date for Martinez is yet to be known
