Diego Aguado poised first team breakthrough

Diego Aguado, 18, has been one of the most promising defender to evolve From Madrid’s youth ranks in recent times. A CB by trade, the player is versatile enough to fit in as a LCB and a LB when in need. This falls straight into Real Madrid’s rescue.

The club will go into the club World Cup with just Fran Garcia as the only available senior LB. Ferland Mendy won’t be fit in time to give his 100%, while the deal with Carreras hasn’t push through yet. Xabi Alonso will have to find another solution with urgency, with the only option being to turn to the youth setup. That’s where Diego Aguado comes in.

Aguado has already left a good impression of himself.

According to GuillermoRai, Real Madrid board see the player as the most likely option to breakout of the youth system. His development has been massive over the course of the season, he has even instilled himself as the main coq in the youth ranks.

Back in January when Ancelotti handed him his first team debut, Aguado was just 17 years old. It was a knockout match in the copa del Rey, and the player stood his ground pretty well. Not the tallest on the pitch and going up against Deprtiva Minera’s gigantic forward, Aguado wasn’t intimidated.

Not only were his performances impressive, Real Madrid even managed a clean sheet as they came out 5-0 victors. The Real Madrid fans quickly fell in love with what they saw, and were left longing for more. However, that was all for the academy star as he received multiple call ups to the first team but was never counted on.

A new dawn under a new coach, Diego Aguado will hope Xabi Alonso can offer him the trust he needs. The time is right for him to take his chances, with the club going into the club World Cup looking vulnerable at LB.
