It has been a busy 12 hours in the world of football after Vinicius Jr made his intentions clear about racism. Racism has been very common in Spain recently, especially in away stadiums of Real Madrid games, with Vinicius Jr being the most targeted victim.
In a recent media interaction, Vinicius Jr made his intentions clear regarding the situation, as he urged FIFA to strip Spain off their hosting eligibility if the situation with racism did not change by 2030, the year Spain are expected to be part of the hosting nations including Portugal and Morocco.
On the matter, Vinicius said;
“I hope that Spain can evolve and understand how serious it is to insult someone because of the colour of their skin.”
“Because if things have not evolved by 2030, I think the World Cup will have to change its location because if the players do not feel comfortable and confident to play in a country where they can suffer racism, it is very complicated,” he added.
How did Carvajal feel about this?
Prior to this, his fellow teammate at Real Madrid, Dani Carvajal issued a response. Although the Spaniard did not particularly agree with Vinicius Jr, he insisted on the fact that racism must be abolished.
On the matter, Carvajal stated;
There is no doubt that Spain is not a racist country,
Carvajal then ran to his teammate’s defence on the issue as he said;
“Vini Jr.’s statement? We are against racism and I know what Vinicius is suffering and we support him internally and publicly.”
The Spaniard also continued;
“Vini said the players will walk off when racially abused? Yes, it makes sense to leave the field until those who abuse are removed.”
The Spanish population has chosen their Ballon d’Or winner, and it’s Dani Carvajal. After a successful season with Madrid, Carvajal went on to produce an all-timer performance at the euros 2024, and winning the competition with Spain. On his chances of winning the award, Carvajal said;
It is clear that being a defender or GK reduces your winning chances. In football, what shines is the goal. But anyway, having the possibility of winning it makes me very happy,”
