Yesterday, Real Madrid did not only celebrate a 2-0 win against Real sociedad. The club also celebrated Courtois’ 100th clean-sheet for the club.
It looked a long way to go for the Belgian when he suffered from an ACL injury last season. Sidelined for the whole campaign, Courtois would make a return, and play Europe’s biggest game at wembley.
Post ACL injury, it’s safe to say the old Courtois is back. The Belgian has managed to register a total of 9 clean-sheets in the last 11 games for Real Madrid, including one in the champions league final (2-0) and another in the UEFA super cup final (2-0).
Courtois’ Reaction
After reaching such a milestone, Courtois was amongst the few Real Madrid players to appeared in front of camera last night. On his huge achievement, the Belgian remarked;
“100 clean sheets with Real Madrid is very special. Keeping a clean sheet is not easy. When we keep a clean sheet, we almost always win.”
The Belgian also went on to give his two cents on how Real Madrid performed on the night saying;
“It was not our best game, the post helped us twice. Never easy coming here but we improved in the second half.”
On how it felt to be back after missing a full season to an ACL injury, he said;
“I feel very good and comfortable (after the injury). It’s fun to play after not playing last season.”
The Courtois Resurgence
Now that Courtois is back and fit, he has a reputation to protect. His substitute Lunin literally won Real Madrid the double last season with countless individual performances, and Courtois will be hoping to Same.
Indeed, the early signs have been very promising, as we earlier noted he has kept 9 clean-sheets in his last 11 games for Real Madrid post injury.
With already 100 clean-sheets under his belt, Courtois will now look to chase the legend Iker casillas, who has 174 clean-sheets for madrid in LaLiga only.
