Contrary to how fans imaged it, it has been a slow start to the season for Real Madrid. With 5 wins and 2 draws, it’s true results have almost always gone Real Madrid’s way, but the team is yet to play actually good and constructive football.
One area of the field where Carlo Ancelotti’s side has underperformed the most is the Midfield department. Owing to this, a report from journalist Jose Felix Diaz of Marca, has hinted the manager is finding solutions. (Via the Madrid zone)
A return to 4-4-2 formation
According to the source, Carlo Ancelotti plans to provide more stability to the team, by boosting the Midfield. A report from the journalist claimed;
“Carlo Ancelotti is considering switching to 4-4-2, especially in big games.”
“The manager wants to form the midfield of Bellingham, Camavinga, Tchouaméni & Valverde. One from the front three will have to be ‘sacrificed’.”
Indeed, Carlo Ancelotti believes a midfield of four brings the balance that has been missing so far. The idea is not to play in a more defensive way, but in a more solid way – and four midfielders are considered the perfect choice for it.
One attacker must be sacrificed
Changes like this in a team of Real Madrid’s status means sacrifices must be made. In this case, one of Vinicius, Rodrygo and Mbappe has to be dropped by the manager.
However, in what is going to be hard choice for the manager to make, the fans already have an idea of ‘WHO’.
Vinicius Jr is arguably one of the best player in the world right now, and is the frontrunner for the Ballon d’Or. Mbappé’s legacy and what he can do in big games is second to none in the squad. With this said, it leaves Rodrygo under the bus.
Ever since they were rumors of Mbappe joining Real Madrid, the Brazilian has always been tipped to be the scapegoat, and it’s now looking a Reality.
Indeed, there’s no arguing how good Rodrygo is, but giving the manager’s ideology to play a Midfield four, while also having Vinicius and Mbappe as striking teammates, he was always going to be the scapegoat.
The report did make mention that this changes might be implemented in big games and the derby is not far. Real Madrid will take-on Atlético later this month, and it’s left to be seen if this changes are implemented.
