Not so long ago, we reported that Ferland Mendy had extended his stay at Real Madrid until 2027. Carlo Ancelotti had a key role to play in the extension according to the report. The defender’s previous contract ran up till the end of this season.
It’s no secret that Carlo Ancelotti highly rates the LB, and a recent report from Spanish newspaper Diario AS has added more weight to the claim.
Ancelotti considers Mendy ‘the best’
When it comes to praising Mendy, Carlo Ancelotti has never been shy to shower one of his most trusted soldiers with the highest of praises. Last season, while speaking to the media, the Italian openly admitted that to him, Mendy is the best in the world at what he does.
Owing to this, almost 10 months later it looks like things have not changed as far as Carlo is concerned. The report from AS claimed that, defensively, Ancelotti considers Mendy second to none.
Indeed, considering his recent form, it’s not hard for one to agree with Carlo on this one.
Ancelotti trusts Mendy
Aside praising the player publicly, Ancelotti is one of Mendy’s biggest fans behind closed doors. This was evident in the managers impact in the players new contract extension.
The higher ups at the club did not want to bet on Mendy, due to his injury history at the club. However, Carlo Ancelotti is one man who always pays one good turn with another. The insisted the player be rewarded for a stellar 2023/24 season.
The club was hellbent on bringing in Alphonso Davies from Bayern this season. The option to recall Miguel Gutierrez of Girona, whom real Madrid own an €8m buyback clause on was also gaining weight, but Ancelotti stood his ground.
Good thing is the manager has had it right till this moment, as Mendy’s injury history seems like a long time ago. However, the club is yet to give up on Davies, and are eyeing a free move in 2025.
Mendy has now extended until 2027, and the club is pleased with Fran Garcia, so we will have to see how the Davies scenario unfolds.
