The last time Real Madrid made business with a bundesliga side paid off handsomely. The club acquired the signing of attacking Midfielder Jude Bellingham from Dortmund for just a little over €100m. The player would go on to win three titles in his opening season, including the champions league. Now, word has it now that the club are looking towards Bayer Leverkusen’s star this time out.
This report emerges courtesy of German journalist Florian plattenberg, who insists on Real Madrid’s interest in Wirtz.
Adding Wirtz into the Midfield.
Amongst many others, Wirtz being linked to Madrid won’t come as a surprise to Many. The player’s name has been linked with Real Madrid for some time now, and this report only goes to further add weight to previous reports.
A key figure for Xabi Alonso last season, Wirtz led his side to a historical unbeaten run in the bundesliga, and a Europa League final finish. His contributions for Germany at the euros were massive, including against Spain in the QF when he came on as a sub and scored the equalizer, though they unfortunately lost.
What does Wirtz bring to the team?
Real Madrid are no strangers when it comes to signing young players and turning them in to superstars. They did so with Bellingham, Camavinga, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo, with the latest additions being Endrick and Arda Güler.
With a player like Wirtz, Real Madrid could do wonders. Known for his attacking contributions, he’s the player you want on the ball always. Wirtz has the abilities to create chances, finish Chances and entertain the crowd with his dazzling skills.
Incorporating him into the squad however will prove troublesome for whoever will be Madrid’s coach at that time. This is solely down to personalities, qualities and players status in the dressing room.
For starters, Vinicius and Mbappe are considered untouchable in attack. Valverde and Bellingham are also untouchable in Midfield, leaving only 2 spots should the coach go for a 4-4-2. Don’t forget Rodrygo, Tchouaméni, Camavinga, Arda Güler, and Brahim Diaz are also fighting for a spot.
However, should he prove technically superior, Wirtz might join Bellingham and Valverde in the list of untouchable Midfielders.
