Alvaro Carreras says YES to Real Madrid

A graduate of La Fabrica, former academy graduate Alvaro Carreras is on the verge of a return to Real Madrid. The player has already said YES to the club.

This comes as a big boost for the Merengues, as they finally look the bolster the LB position, one seen as a weak-link over the years. First choice LB Ferland Mendy is very much injury prone and usually nonexistent in attacking buildups, while Fran Garcia has just not met the demands of the club.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, there’s an agreement in principle between Real Madrid and the player.

Alvaro Carreras and his Benfica side are currently preparing for their big game on Sunday, as they face Sporting CP in the Portuguese cup final. As per the source, this game is the reason a deal hasn’t been struck yet.

Real Madrid do not plan to offer any distractions to the player or the club ahead of such a big game, and will wait till after the final. After which intensive club to club negotiations will begin.

Carreras’ release clause

Alvaro Carreras, 22, has a release clause to his name amounting to €50M, a figure Benfica expects Real Madrid to pay. Real Madrid however, have plans to bid down the amount as much as they can.

although the fee is in a region Real Madrid could pay without batting an eye, the club wish to negotiate. Their first offer though is yet to be known.

The Merengues are pushing for the player to be present at the club World Cup, with Ferland Mendy ruled out of the competition. The Frenchman suffered a lengthy injury towards the latter stages of the season.

However, some other reports has it that Benfica will make it difficult for the player to participate in the said tournament. This narrows down to the fact that they themselves are participants.
