Who would have thought Luka Modrić would become the most decorated player for Real Madrid while being captain?

At the age of 27, Modrić left Tottenham Hotspurs for Real Madrid. This transfer was nothing short of drama with Tottenham Hotspurs president Daniel lavy posing as a hindrance on Modrić’s way to Madrid.

As per Modrić, he went as far as refusing to participate in pre-season just to force a move to Madrid. The man behind Modrić’s move to Madrid was none other than Jose Mourinho, at that time Real Madrid’s head coach.

From being labeled the worst transfer in Real Madrid’s his, here is what Modrić went on to achieve:

6x champions league winner

5x UEFA Super cup Winner

5x FIFA club world cup winner

5x Spanish super cup

4x LaLiga winner

2x cupa del Rey winner.

With 27 titles, Modrić is now the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history. The Croatian recently surpassed Nacho  when the team won the UEFA Super cup against Atalanta.

It is also worth mentioning that Modrić, while achieving this unbelievable feat in therms of silverware, played a total of 573 games, scoring 39 goals and providing 86 assists.

Modrić’s most remarkable year of his career will undoubtedly be 2018. The Croatian won the prestigious Ballon d’Or that year, breaking the long-standing dominance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi on footballs biggest stage.

Indeed, it is also worth mentioning that 2018 was Modrić’s most successful year on the international stages. He led his country Croatia to a world cup final, and although they lost to France, achieving such a milestone with Croatia is no piece of cake.

Amongst some of his individual awards, Modrić also boasts of 1x FIFA the best, 1x UEFA men’s player of the year, 1x IFFHS world’s best playmaker in 2018 amongst others.

Modrić will be looking to lead this Real Madrid side as captain to more glory for what could be his last season in Europe.
